For 2012, I chose a word that I am using to help shape and guide me through the year. That word is Difference. My goal is to make a difference in my community by starting a pet food pantry, but making a difference doesn’t have to involve such a big goal. There are other ways you can make a difference. I’ll be sharing some of these ways with you throughout the year.
Make a difference when you search online.
GoodSearch was started in 2005 as a way to help organizations by having people use their search engine which is powered by Yahoo. The revenue comes from search engine advertisers and 50% of it is distributed to the nonprofit organizations and schools. The organizations sign up and then users designate which organization they are supporting with their searches.
GoodSearch also added a shopping portal and dining program for users where a percentage of their purchase goes to their chosen organization.
Using GoodSearch is easy. Go to the site, choose your charity from one of the 104,171 active organizations (9 pages of animals groups to chose from!) and then register. Then begin searching. You can even download a toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox to make searching easier. There are some restrictions on the type of searches that benefit your organization. These are described on the FAQs page.
You’re on the Internet anyway so why not make a difference as you search the web (or shop or dine).
