one little word 2012

One little word is about choosing 1 word that has meaning to you, that will guide you through 2012, that will make you and your life better.

It didn’t take long for me to chose my word- Difference– as in I want to make a difference.

I wrote about my goal for 2012 to open a pet food pantry.  It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. I’m not sure if it was turning 40 a few years ago, but something made me realize that I wanted to make an impact. I wanted to make the world a better place for pets and people. I wanted to make a difference.

The pet food pantry is just a small part of my goal. I want to build an organization that helps keep pets in their homes and out of shelters by offering different programs to help.  A little bit of a lofty goal maybe, especially for this quiet, introverted person, but goals keep us moving forward so it stays.

Making a difference doesn’t have to be so big, I also plan to make some differences in my life, in areas like decluttering, using my time and doing things with family.  I look forward to 2012 making a difference in me.

  • How interesting – that was my word about 20 years ago! At the time, I was working in public accounting, and I wanted to do something that made a difference. So I made a mid-career change and started doing fundraising for nonprofit organizations (human services, arts and education).

This year my word is gratitude (see my most recent blog post). Actually, it’s been my word for quite a while. I find that I am much happier with my life when I am grateful for what I have.

Best wishes on achieving your goals in 2012!

  • You picked a great word. And a great goal. I can’t wait to watch your progress in 2012.

    Happy New Year!

  • Fantastic!!!!

    Mine is “Believe”….

(but there are many more that I could use!)

“If you can believe it, you WILL ACHIEVE IT!”

How wonderful that you could find a career where you could make a difference. I do think that is why I finally feel like I have a job I can work for the rest of my life. I’m a cancer registrar and while my job doesn’t help cancer patients directly, I feel like I’m helping behind the scenes.

Gratitude is a great word and something I try to embrace more and more.

Thanks Pam! I figured writing it down would make it come true especially since people read my post. Great accountability!

Believe is great word Caren! I feel like printing out a bunch of little signs and putting them all over the place to help keep it in my mind, but I’ll just stick with reading through my new addiction, Pinterest, to stay inspired.

  • As I read your post, I felt that flush inside. You know the one that comes from something touching your soul deep inside. Love your goal of setting up a pet food pantry and eager to see you put this in action. Bravo!

Thank you! It’s been a goal of mine to help animals in some way. The pet food pantry is hopefully just the beginning.
