Pet Pop Quiz Answer

Oola - a Noble Dane
Living in Pennsylvania and being an animal lover I knew what breed the state dog was. I didn’t know the story about when it was voted on. Check it out in the answer.

Q: Each state has a state flower and state bird, but did you know some states have state dogs? Pennsylvania calls a well known giant breed as its state dog. Name the breed.

A: Pennsylvania’s state dog is the Great Dane. Most state dog breeds get their designation because the breed originated there, the Great Dane’s connection to PA is through founder William Penn who was thought to have owned one.

When the PA legislature voted for the Great Dane to be the state dog, the members voted with yips, growls and barks and the speaker confirmed the vote by saying “the arfs have it”. How’s that for government!?

Pet Pop Quiz Answer

Did you know ferrets were illegal to own in some places? I was surprised to find this out when I first began researching them. Fortunately, I was able to keep them where I live. Let’s see what other state you can’t have them in.

Q: Ferrets are illegal to own in 2 states in the US. One of those states is Hawaii. Name the other state.

A: Along with Hawaii, ferrets cannot be kept in California. Along with these 2 states there are cities that make them illegal to own such as New York City and Allentown, PA.

The weather’s been much more tolerable these last few days with temps in the 80s and less humidity. I spent some time on Sunday walking with a friend and Ricochet looking for monarch caterpillars in a field. My friend has been caring for a couple that already went into the chrysalis stage and should emerge in just over a week. Have you ever raised Monarch caterpillars to the butterfly stage?

Q: Ferrets are illegal to own in 2 states in the US. One of those states is Hawaii. Name the other state.
