I will admit, I love the less adoptable animals for a very selfish reason. I love the way it makes me feel when I can help a cat with an illness feel better, or a dog with a behavior problem better behaved or a ferret with a terminal disease enjoy time living in a regular household rather than a shelter for the rest of her life. Sure, I do it to help the pet, but I mostly do it for me. It’s the one way I know I can make a difference.
Petfinder is sponsoring “Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week” to promote those animals that have a harder time finding a home because they are too old, have a medical condition, are a not popular breed, or a not popular color. These guys are sadly often overlooked and often they have the most to give.

Oh, what a horrible, selfish thing you do, adopting less adoptable pets! I hope you continue to be selfish!
The challenge a pet like that might present is certainly intimidating, but they joy that they can bring to your life is immeasurable. I’m glad there’s a week devoted to this!
I like the way you think!
